# Announcement bar

> Set up promotional banners, countdown timers, and scrolling messages

The announcement bar sits at the very top of your store. It's one of the highest-visibility elements and is used by almost every successful Elixir store.

## Setting it up

1. Open the theme editor (**Customize**).
2. Click on the **Announcement bar** in the header group at the top of the section list.
3. Configure the settings in the sidebar.

## What you can do

### Sale announcements

Display promotional text like "HOLIDAY SALE — Save up to 40%" with a link to your sale collection or product.

### Countdown timer

Add a countdown timer to create urgency. Set an end date and the timer displays days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Works great for:

* Flash sales
* Product launches
* Seasonal promotions
* Limited-time offers

### Multiple messages

Rotate between multiple announcement messages. Useful when you want to promote several things at once (e.g. "Free shipping over \$50" and "New arrivals just dropped").

### Scrolling ticker

Use the **Scrolling Ticker** section for a continuously scrolling marquee-style message bar — great for repeated short messages like "FREE SHIPPING" or "HOLIDAY SALE".

## Styling

| Setting              | What it does                                     |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Background color** | Bar background (often a bold, contrasting color) |
| **Text color**       | Message text color                               |
| **Link**             | Where the bar links to when clicked              |

<Tip>
  Use a contrasting color for the announcement bar so it stands out from the header. Dark backgrounds with white or bright text work well.

## Sale countdown banner

For a more prominent sale promotion, use the **Sale Countdown Banner** section instead. This is a full-width banner (not just a thin bar) with:

* Large countdown timer
* Sale percentage or offer text
* CTA button
* Background image or color

This works great placed directly below the header or above the hero section.
