# Updating

> Update your Elixir theme to the latest version

We regularly release updates with new sections, features, and bug fixes.

## How to update

1. Go to the [Elixir dashboard](https://app.ecomelixir.com).
2. Use the **theme updater** tool.
3. The updater applies the latest version while preserving your store settings and section configurations.

## What gets preserved

* Theme settings (colors, fonts, layout)
* Section configurations and ordering
* Template assignments

## What may be overwritten

<Warning>
  **Custom code changes** (edits to Liquid, CSS, or JS files) may be overwritten during an update. Always back up your theme before updating if you've made code modifications.

### To back up your theme

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store → Themes**.
2. Click the **⋯** menu on your current theme.
3. Select **Download theme file** to save a `.zip` backup.
